Our Story
Maria De La Vega was born in the capital of the world famous Tortillas “Sobaqueras” (arm length flour tortillas) - Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico in 1931. She knew how to make the most delicious, soft and heart-warming flour tortillas you could ever taste.
Maria immigrated to San Diego, California in 1959 and became the mother of 7 children who were blessed to know first hand these wonderful tortillas of her native Sonoran upbringing.
It was a common thing to find her as early as 4:00 am up and in her kitchen mixing, kneading and rolling out by hand - her flour tortillas and then into a hot comal to fill the house with the smell of warm tortillas. A tall stack of these authentic Sonoran Tortillas were waiting for us when we got up in the morning.
For our family, tortillas aren’t just food. They remind us of a loving mother who selflessly and happily made them with love and always used only the finest ingredients.
We honor her memory by bringing these delicious and Sonoran Flour Tortillas to your family’s table and to the world through De La Vega Tortillas.
